UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror with Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a young woman harboring several personalities within her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate souls, each with their own fears and motivations. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie hospital, while additional clips show the main character navigating a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to each person."

The central gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's fears become exaggerated and assault the protagonist one after another. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms where their necks should be. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls claims that the body belongs to them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to follow on digital storefronts.
