The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Anger Over Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has altered its size classifications for female and kids' apparel failing to inform every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to check their listings and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Size Classification Changes
Before the change, the sizing featured a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has emerged as a preferred choice to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: previously, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
