The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial World Series after 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Behind 3-1, the star outfielder smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the anticipated World Series.

"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, the nation," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."

George Springer has now slugged 23 October home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot other than Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the one club never to appear in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's painful" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we finished on the losing end of this one," he continued.

The Blue Jays won the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
