PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.
The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.
Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.
The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.
However, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.
In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.
The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
