In the final seconds, unbridled joy broke out for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández forced home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola in a state of despair and provided the temporary Chelsea manager a truly golden moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane represented the Premier League's most pronounced managerial mismatch in class, making the recollection of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old in his dotage.

A Glaring Contrast in Pedigree

On the City bench stood the era's defining coach, a man with 40 trophies for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the visitors' dugout, stood a former coach at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and stepped up to make his senior managerial bow after being temporarily promoted from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a host of absences, most notably Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task started out as a mission that seemed nearly insurmountable.
