Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Military Operations.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in response for a "massive" and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.
Additional Developments
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.
It said debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
