Fury Explodes as Former President Trump's Social Media Remarks on Director Rob Reiner Ignites Fierce Criticism

Individuals from across the partisan spectrum and the Hollywood industry are uniting to denounce Donald Trump for his statements in the wake of the tragic passing of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Statement

Following the discovery of the couple dead at their Brentwood home, Trump took to his platform to describe the late director as "tortured and suffering". The message, he claimed Reiner's death was "due to the hostility he provoked others through his massive, relentless, and untreatable condition with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to self-praise, contrasting Reiner's alleged "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump described as the "Golden Age of America".

Police Developments and Detention

Authorities have since announced the detention of the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in connection with the incident. Reports indicate his bond was set at a substantial amount.

A Torrent of Condemnation from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's words was immediate and harsh.

This is a vile and despicable comment,” remarked public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a close acquaintance, also condemned the remarks. Goldberg pointed to previous rhetoric from Trump about the killing of an activist, demanding, "Have you no shame? Can you get any lower?"

The state of California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply stated, "He is a disturbed man."

Echoing this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "He is a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "Trump has just lost it. Now implying the Reiners brought on their own murder because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Criticism from Within Party

A number of Republican lawmakers also expressed dismay.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or rivals". Greene also mentioned challenges with addiction and mental health some families face.

Fellow GOP congressman, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disgraceful" given the nature of the deaths. He openly dared others in his party to defend the statements.

The Director's History and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal critic of Donald Trump. During a previous conversation, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also warned about the dangers of autocracy should Trump be reelected to power.

"We see authoritarianism making its move around the world," Reiner said. "Should the United States crumble, there’s a risk that democracy collapse around the world."

Regardless of his strong criticisms, Reiner had in the past expressed "absolute horror" and condemned political violence unequivocally after the killing of another individual.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Providing a layer of past irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the artist who captured the cover image for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously shared the anecdote of the photo shoot, noting Trump's demand for "special hairspray" while posing on a skyscraper overlooking Central Park.
