The European Union could “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the United States against five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.

European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Coercion’

European leaders including the French president accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions targeted individuals who have been central to campaigns to introduce legislation governing American tech companies.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
