Congress Approves Bill to Release Epstein Documents
The Senate on Tuesday quickly approved to a measure that will mandate the disclosure of official records concerning the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a near-unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a reversal by the president and his Republican allies. The administration relented after months of trying to delay the joint action involving a scandal that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.
Swift Passage in Congress
The Senate acted by unanimous consent, which requires approval from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, expediting the process. Hours earlier, the House voted decisively for the bill on a massive majority.
Citizens have endured sufficient delay. Those affected have waited patiently,” Chuck Schumer said in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before urging the Senate to pass it unanimously. “Reveal the truth. Let transparency reign.”
Presidential Signature
This legislation next will be sent to Donald Trump for his approval. Trump indicated on Monday that he would endorse the legislation.
Although Trump has for months dismissed the outcry over the official management of the investigation as a “Democrat hoax”, he expressed his backing for the House bill over the past few days, and stated he would approve it if it comes to him.
Support and Opposition
Democrats, along with victims and their advocates who were watching from a public section, cheered after the bill was approved. Lone dissent came from Clay Higgins, who expressed concern he was concerned the measure would disclose identifying details of people, potential suspects and others caught up in the investigation.
