Brian Eno Encourages Backing to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to send a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The project seeks to deliver assistance to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disheartened if it fails to, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded after a major charity concert held in late summer. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The notable list of performers featured on Lullaby features a group of well-known figures from the industry. All participated in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a significant sum for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a team of music creators. The track showcases a fusion of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The group managing the campaign have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a representative explained. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Of course, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The reality in the region was noted for its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a handful of millions doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is above all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
The track is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from later in the month.
