Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to the top, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
